Privacy Policy
The short version
Inkling predicts your next words on your own Mac. The language model runs locally, and the text you type is never uploaded to us or to anyone else. There is no account and no sign-in. The app makes only a few network connections: it downloads the model once, it checks your license with our payment provider, and it checks for app updates. The only data we collect is anonymous, aggregate usage counts that cannot identify you or reveal what you write, and we never sell your data.
What stays on your Mac
Everything you write and everything the app produces from it stays on your device. That includes the text around your cursor that Inkling reads to make a prediction, the suggestions it generates, your settings and any per-app preferences, the local count of completions used today, and a local log the app keeps to improve prediction quality. None of this is transmitted off the device. Your license key is stored in the macOS Keychain.
Downloading the model
To work offline, Inkling downloads a language model file once, the first time you set it up. The download is fetched from Hugging Face (and, if that is unreachable, a mirror). The host of that file necessarily sees the request, including your IP address, the same as any file download. After the model is on your Mac, predictions no longer need the network.
Licensing and activation
If you buy a license, activating it contacts our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy, at api.lemonsqueezy.com. The app sends your license key and your Mac's host name, which is used only to label the device against your license so you can manage your seats. The app re-checks the license from time to time to confirm it is still active, and removing a license deactivates that device's seat. No text you write is ever part of these requests.
Purchases
Purchases are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which acts as the merchant of record. When you check out, you provide your email and payment details to Lemon Squeezy directly, under Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy, and it handles billing and any applicable tax. We receive order information from Lemon Squeezy, such as your email address, which product you bought, and the country used for tax, so we can deliver and support your license. We never see your full card details.
Software updates
Inkling checks for new versions so it can keep itself up to date. An update check is a request to our update feed, which reveals your IP address and the app version you are running, the same as visiting a web page. It does not include anything you have written.
Anonymous usage data
To improve Inkling, we collect anonymous, aggregate usage measurements: for example how many people install the app, how often it is used, and how often a feature is used, counted only as totals. These measurements cannot identify you and never include anything you type. What you write stays on your device. We use this only to make the app better, there is no advertising and no cross-app tracking, and we never sell your data.
No account, no profile
Inkling has no sign-up and no login. You never create an account, and we never build a profile of you.
Your choices
You control your data because it lives on your Mac. To remove everything Inkling stores, remove your license inside the app and delete the app and its support files. To stop the only recurring network call, you can let a subscription lapse or remove the license.
Children
Inkling is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated effective date.
